Long Established Wholesale and Retail Meat Processing Business

Long Established Wholesale and Retail Meat Processing Business

This company has been in business for 45 years and strives for great customer service and to offer quality meats at reasonable prices.  Besides butchering and processing sides and quarters of beef, whole and half hogs, they maintain a fresh meat counter where they have continually expanded their retail sales.  They are the ONLY USDA approved meat processing company in the area, which means they can sell and deliver processed meat across state lines, unlike state licensed operations.  Besides pigs and cows, the business also butchers goats, deer and considers specialized processing as requested.  They smoke meats and do catering as well.

Competition: The only competitor anywhere close to competing with what this company actually does is a ways away. For retail sales, of course the competition is grocery and food stores, but those outlets can’t begin to compete in bulk sales, prices or anything ‘customized’—like a particular cut of meat, cut to a certain weight. This company strives to run a straight forward honest business, professionally. Anything and everything with a chunk of meat in it, they can process.

Growth & Expenses: Because this business is an agricultural related one, the business is very dependent on the price of cattle. They are busy from fall until spring and it slows down a bit in the summer. But hunting season kicks in that takes them through the slower time. There are things that could easily be done to expand the business. There is extra property adjacent to expand the plant if someone wanted to. Currently, they also do very little marketing to stores in the area for the processing end of things. That could ramped up with very little effort—especially since they are the only USDA processing plant in the vicinity. It is the kind of business that there will always be a demand for.
